“The Guardian Angel of Love”

By Jan-Carel Koster

The origins of the design

“The Guardian Angel of Love” is designed with the idea that arises from the power of the stone itself. That is also the reason why I came up with this title.

Technical Information

Material:  Quartz
Origins:  South Africa
Weight of initial rock:  340kg
Weight of sculpture:  110kg

Explanation Quartz sculpture

What you see in the sculpture is a mixture of styles. It contains realistic, abstract and natural elements.

By using these styles Jan-Carel creates contrasts that are very direct in some places, but very subtle in other places in the sculpture. He creates these contrasts through the use of shape, but also through the processing methods/techniques (chopping, filing and polishing).

For him, using this is a quest to capture contrasts as beautifully as possible in one object. In addition, he looks for combinations of these contrasts versus the meanings of the design and energies in the stone so that a complete story is created.

The Guardian angel of love

The stone is left on one side as nature created it. As a contrast on the other side an Angel wing that has been realistically detailed down to the small details. On the inside, the Angel Wing merges into an abstract shape in various places, which in turn turns into an intertwining of symbols.

As the main shape, a heart shape has been made in the opening of the stone that has been highly polished. Under this heart shape, an abstract transition is made from the Angel Wing to the heart shape by using another symbol for love, namely the Celtic symbol for Love “The Celtic Knot”. And because this knot is infinite, it represents infinite wisdom, compassion and love.

With the direct contrast between nature and the reality created by humanity (realistic Angel Wing), Jan-Carel wants to emphasize that nature and we (humanity) live together in this universe in which we both use the same elixir of life.

Love is central

In that respect we stand next to each other, but often enough also opposite each other. Just look at what we do with nature and how little in common we have with nature in the Western world.

The abstract shapes in the quartz sculpture are a reference from humanity to nature and vice versa, incorporating the symbols of love, wisdom and compassion.

The fact that love is an important element in everyone’s life is emphasized by depicting it centrally in the sculpture and by polishing this symbol (the heart) to a high gloss so that the transparency of the stone is optimal. Especially when the sculpture is illuminated from below the pedestal and the heart shape lights up.

The stone of love

Rose Quartz is the stone of universal love. It is said to restore trust and harmony in relationships, encouraging unconditional love. Rose Quartz may help to purify and open the heart at all levels to promote love, self-love, friendship, deep inner healing and feelings of peace.

The Angel Wing

The top layer of the wing will largely be polished to bring out the transparency of the stone even more so that the meaning of the stone is also emphasized. For Jan-Carel, the Angel Wing literally means a protective shield around the symbol of love, wisdom and compassion.

With the story and symbols in combination with the energies represented in the stone, ‘The Guardian Angel of Love’ creates a powerful catalyst when placed in your living environment.
