Woodlovin’ bastards table
By Jan-Carel Koster
Exclusive design
The emblem is a derivative of the emblem of a worldwide popular series, ‘The Sons of Anarchy’. I have given this a twist so that it fits the concept of ‘Zwaartafelen’, for which I made the table. It is absolutely unique and there is certainly no duplicate.

Hand carved emblem

This hand-carved “Sons of Anarchy” table with a 10 cm thick top is made of Suar wood. Suar comes from Indonesia. You almost pronounce it as Heavy wood in Dutch and that is correct, the top is almost impossible to lift, especially now that it is filled with a crystal clear soft-top epoxy casting resin. The type of wood is easy to work with, provided you know how the grain of wood works. This is not a wood for novice woodworkers because of the cross grain that this type of wood has. And in this table top there were extra branches that gave a different cutting direction to the wood every time. An extra level of difficulty, but with a very nice result.
What makes Suar special?
This wooden table is made from certified FSC wood that originates from Indonesia. The dimensions of the tabletop are 200 (length) x 110 (width) x 10 (height) cm. The photo below show the sawmill where the tabletop comes from.
Super Suar
Suar wood’s impressive size, unique grain patterns, warm color tones, sustainability, durability, natural live edge, suitability for carving, and low maintenance make it a special and sought-after material for a variety of applications, particularly in the creation of furniture and decorative items.
The emblem
The video below shows how beautiful this table is, but it is even more beautiful in real life! Then you see the depth in the table, which can still be used as a table due to the use of the epoxy, but still has the beautiful 3D effect. A true must see! It is located at Zwaartafelen in Hoevelaken / Amersfoort where you can pop in during their opening hours to view this table, among other things.
