Exclusive Oak desk

By Jan-Carel Koster

Exclusive desk sculpture

In collaboration with Zwaartafelen and furniture maker Fred Gorter, I designed and realized an exclusive oak desk sculpture. It is a desk sculpture made entirely of solid oak.

Technical Information

Material:  Oak wood
Origins:  The Netherlands
Dimensions:  L: 300 x W: 120 cm

Unique drawers

This sculpture contains 8 drawers, 4 of which are visible. Two of them are completely concealed in the sculpture and 2 others are invisible at first glance. These appear as soon as you open the first drawer of the desk. These top drawers are again equipped with a solid wooden drawer in which the various objects that you store in a drawer are carved into the wood, making it a unique storage system.

If desired, these drawers can be arranged by the customer according to personal preference. For example; your expensive ‘Golden Pen’ has its unique outline carved into the drawer for exactly this purpose.

The tabletop
The top of this table is a thick oak slab from the top of a heavy oak trunk from the Arnhem area. The widest part is 1.20 meters in diameter. And with a length of 3 meters, this is quite a large desk. Luxurious LED lighting has been built in under the desktop, which can be operated with a remote control and via a smartphone in any desired RGB color.

The old favorite

Oak wood is favored for furniture due to its durable and dense nature, attractive grain patterns, versatility in finishes, stability, workability, resistance to decay and insects, historical association with quality, and sustainability.

The signature

This is subtly inlaid with copper in the rear ‘leg’ of the desk. This desk is exclusive and unique in the entire world and there will not be a second one made. The desk comes with a certificate of authenticity.
