Diabase double vanity

By Jan-Carel Koster

Origins

Jan-Carel has created a beautiful design of a Diabase double vanity for a customer. The wish was to bring nature into the home and combine this with design in the bathroom and toilet area.

The rock that has been used for this vanity is sourced in German quarries, not too far from where Jan-Carel is based in the Nederlands. He visits these quarries to check on the quality and sometimes sources perfect rocks for his projects.

It is used for road construction, building foundations, monuments, and decorative elements such as countertops and tiles. The rock’s adaptability to different purposes underscores its significance in the construction and design industries.

3. Fine-Grained Texture: The fine-grained texture of diabase, a result of its relatively rapid cooling, contributes to its smooth and attractive appearance. This texture makes it well-suited for ornamental purposes, enhancing its aesthetic appeal in architectural and decorative applications.

4. Dark Coloration: Diabase’s dark color, which can range from black to dark gray, adds to its visual allure. This characteristic makes it an aesthetically pleasing choice for various design elements, including sculptures, architectural facades, and landscaping.

Custom made

This double vanity has been designed and hand crafted on request for a clients new bathroom. A special foundation had to be laid to support this 3000kg monolith to ensure it wouldn’t sag into the floor.

In the video below you can see how this double vanity had to be carefully placed and installed on its final destination. It’s of utmost importance that the whole process is well thought out in advance, and guided by professionals.
