Outstanding craftsmanship meets the highest quality raw materials in this unique rose-white quartz bath. This monolith (9500 kg) was sourced from the deep inlands of South Africa, and a road had to be constructed for it’s transportation to Cape Town, where Jan-Carel set up a temporary outdoor studio to create this masterpiece.

Why is a Quartz bath so special?
Almost all African sources of Quartz, Jasper, Amethyst and many other beautiful minerals occur in the Namaqua belt, including this Quartz stone. It comes from a vast area of changing landscapes. From rugged semi-desert to mountains, through which the Orange River cuts to the sea, all south of the Kalahari Desert.
Quartz is a popular gemstone that is becoming increasingly difficult to find in large sizes as most of its resources have been depleted. A new location was recently discovered in the Orange River basin. The area is located approximately 30 km from the nearest settlement and can only be reached via almost impassable paths and roads.
Of course, no project is complete without Jan-Carel’s signature. While he usually stamps the signature with copper, he wanted a more exclusive signature for this exclusive bath, which is why it is stamped with 24 carat gold. Nothing complements this luxurious bath as beautifully as this precious metal.
This gemstone bath has been designed and hand crafted on request for a client, and is specifically made so that it remains raw and natural on the outside, while being perfectly smooth and polished on the inside.
On the inside this bath has been sculpted to fit the clients biometric measurements perfectly so that it ensures absolute comfort. Jan-Carel worked with the architect to make sure that style, measurements and design matched perfectly for it’s final destination.
The stone of love
Rose Quartz is the stone of universal love. It is said to restore trust and harmony in relationships, encouraging unconditional love. Rose Quartz may help to purify and open the heart at all levels to promote love, self-love, friendship, deep inner healing and feelings of peace.
The making of
Rose-White Quartz Bath
As the Architect on the project, I was requested by the Client’s team to investigate a “unique” piece of sculptural bath. One that cannot be recreated. Without JC and Guido on board this would have been nearly impossible to achieve. JC immediately understood and proposed the concept however the trickiest part being the internal part of the bath which had to exactly match the Client’s biometrics. JC delivered beyond expectation. His unmatched skills turned a boulder into a beautiful “haute couture” piece of Art. No wonder when the Client saw the piece he was in complete awe and marvelled by this creation. JC has my highest recommendation and I cannot wait to work with him again! Words are not enough to describe this Artwork that slowly emerged through his skilful hands touching the rock!
